Free online course helps Havering small businesses become reality

Havering Council has teamed up with Rebel Business School once again with a free 10-day online course, helping local residents turn their business ideas into a reality.

The programme, run by the business school on behalf of Havering, is designed to help people to take those first steps in creating a new small business.

The intensive course will teach new and prospective entrepreneurs about creating business plans, funding and finance options, building a website and social media platforms, as well as introducing their products to the market.

The course will also help with registering a company and ensuring all of the legal documents are up to date. Participants will also learn about avoiding any of the pitfalls faced in the first years of business.

Outside of the traditionally stuffy classroom environment, the virtual course is split over 10 days, with different topics covered each day. This gives participants the freedom to drop in and out on the workshops that are relevant.

The programme begins on Monday 6 June through to Friday 17 June, with workshops running from 10am – 3pm.

Neil Stubbings, Director of Regeneration for Havering Council, said:

“We’re thrilled to be working with Rebel Business School once more on this exciting project.

“The last couple of years have showed people across the country that there are different ways to do business. There has never been a better time to turn your hobby into a viable business model.

“Havering has a track record of nurturing entrepreneurs and start-ups. Whether this is your first time, or you’ve tried your hand at running a small business in the past, I’d encourage you to sign up and start your new business today.”

The course is completely free, but places are limited. You can book by visiting: https://therebelschool.com/online-june/

Rebel Business School will also be hosting an in-person networking event for local businesses later in the year.

Testimonials

Charlotte Cook, MamaMakesDo.com

“After having my two kids, the extortionate price of childcare put me in the position of needing to quit full-time employment. I used this time to reflect on my priorities.

“I wanted to learn the world of web design, so brought myself some cheap hosting and created the blog MamaMakesDo.com. Over time the experience I built up led to some paid work.  It was with this experience that I started MamaMakesCrafts.com – a website selling crafts and keepsakes that I hand make.

“I was never going to get this business going unless I went for it. The contagious enthusiasm and real, down to earth advice put things into perspective. Since the course, I’ve said yes to all possible opportunities I could find.

“I had a stall at a Christmas market and ended up smashing my sales record of the previous year in a week.  I put myself out there locally and saw a huge uptake in sales. I am now seeing repeat custom and bespoke commissions.”

Luke McCoy, Luke’s Cider

“I heard about the course through a friend who had done it and highly recommended it. After this past year I wanted to find something to give me some focus and direction and help me to really push on with my business. I wasn’t disappointed. There was so much to take away.

“My hope is to be able to switch over and make my business my fulltime job and commitment, which is a bit scary but the course has set me up with the tools to give me the confidence and motivation.”
