Providing Care and Support to the people of Havering this Christmas
2020 has been a challenging year for us all
The Covid Pandemic was unexpected, unprecedented, and has changed forever the way we interact as a community. It has also changed how Tapestry will provide care to you, our community
Tapestry has been providing Care and Support for over 70 years to older and vulnerable adults and we intend to continue to do so for as long as we are needed.
Throughout the pandemic, we have continued to operate and continued to support older, more vulnerable people and those isolated and lonely, by providing them with care and support services that help their mental and physical wellbeing.
We have done so in a number of ways.
Care calls - Calling people as frequently as they need, daily if required, to provide companionship, check on their health and wellbeing and organising support where needed, such as collecting medicines. We have made over 13,000 such calls since April.
Hot food delivery service - Very quickly, it was clear people were going hungry, so, in response, we established a daily, freshly made, hot meal delivery service. We have delivered over 9,000 healthy meals since April.
Day services – In September we reopened HOPWA house, our HUB in Hornchurch, and have remained open providing Covid Safe services since. HUBS offer personalised care and support and activities to older people and those living with dementia/disability in a safe environment. They are places of enjoyment where people can be with friends, learn new skills, continue with hobbies, reminisce, dance and sing.

Help us to help others this Christmas and New Year
This has been a difficult year for us all and we are all aware that Christmas and New Year this year will be a considerable challenge. At Tapestry, we are extremely concerned that this year’s extended Christmas break, over a long weekend, could leave some of the most vulnerable people in our community isolated and lonely over what is seen as a time to be together.
Tapestry want to stop this happening by providing ‘Care Calls’
and hot meals over the Christmas period
We intend to provide companionship and spread a little joy by delivering traditional Christmas meals and presents, and calling people over the Christmas and New Year weekends.
You can help by
- Making us aware of someone you are concerned about who would benefit from a call and a hot meal on Christmas Day
- Volunteering for just 1 or 2 hours to deliver meals or make calls to vulnerable people. We will be delivering meals on Christmas day and the Sunday of the Christmas weekend, and making calls on all 4 days: Friday 25th to Monday 28th December
- If you are a business, perhaps you could donate a suitable gift to give to those receiving our meals on Christmas day

Christmas is traditionally a time when we think of others.
This has been a terrible year for many of us.
