Havering Dementia Action Alliance
Dementia is one of the greatest challenges facing our ageing society. Public awareness of dementia is high. However understanding is still very poor. The Alliance has been developed so that communities and organisations who want to improve the world around them for those affected by dementia can take steps to do so.
The Dementia Action Alliance is a movement with one simple aim: to bring about a society-wide response to dementia. It encourages and supports communities and organisations across England to take practical actions to enable people to live well with dementia and reduce the risk of costly crisis intervention.
Havering has the largest population of people aged 65 and over out of all the London Boroughs and figures indicate that that there are nearly 3050 people living with dementia in the Borough.
It is the aim of the Havering Dementia Action Alliance to make the lives of those people and their carers better. By encouraging all areas of the community to make simple changes we hope to remove the difficulties being experienced in everyday life by people with dementia and their carers.
Support by Havering businesses and organisations to date has been outstanding and as a result, Havering has recently been granted the status of 'Working Towards becoming a Dementia Friendly Community'. This is a great achievement and if you are a public body, business or charity that would like to become a part of this Dementia Friendly Community and make a public ongoing commitment to improving the lives of people with dementia then you should join the Alliance.
